Hello all,
Davis, one of the people putting on this show (see
below) asked me to forward this message to any one
that may be interested. Since I remember someone's
post a while back mentioning the lack of experimental
(& related) music events in Detroit I thought I'd
forward it here (to the IDM list).
If I wasn't in Chicago for the summer I'd be at the
show, but I will be at one of the Chicago dates.

Below is more propaganda for you
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
% WWJD? released his first disc on or about August
20th, 1999.
Inspired by
% MildManJan [who has releases on V/Vm and has worked
with Mark E.
Smith of
% the mighty Fall], it was contracted from the samples
of a pig being
painted
% and titled _Go and Do Likewise!_, it was met by a
plethra of
expressionless
% faces. However some comments were procurred from the
audience, the
more
% interesting follow:
% Ed (DMX Krew) -- "Well, I'm afraid I didn't like
it."
% Simon (Ocosi/GatorBaitTen) -- "the CD is sick man
sick sick sick sick
...."
% Multipara (LuxNigra) -- "and in the end not sounding
like anything
i've
% heard..."
% Since then, the pig sounds have been remixed by the
likes of Atom
Heart,
DJ
% Speedranch^JanskyNoise, Kid606 Tsunoda Tsuguto,
Alejandra &
Underwood, Jan
% Van Den Dobbelsteen, V/Vm, Venetian Snares, Frans De
Waard, D.J.
Beattie,
% multipara, Persona, a slew of others, and of course
... Mild Man Jan
himself.
% Some of these remixes have already been unleashed on
labels such as
Ipecac
% and Microwave.
% The Catbox is local bassist whose local improv crew,
Rattling Wall
% Collective, have self released 9 CDRs. [Though he
refuses to share
any of
% those with Jason...Bah!]
% Together they have recorded one CDR, which is
getting odd reviews in
% countries across the oceans while being virtually
ignored in their
% hometown. Will Oct 14th change that? Doubtful.
Ha!

Comae:
% Comae [pronounced Co > my: meaning the specular
cloud of gas & dust
surrounding the nucleus of a comet] is a collaboration
between Janek
Schaefer &
% Robert Hampson formed in 1999. The duo arose from a
shared interest
in
architecture/place and music/space.
% Janek is best known for exploring an imaginative
approach to sound
production and retrieval most notably with the
invention of his
Tri-phonic
Turntable. He was % chosen as the 'Sound Designer of
the Year' by
Creative
Review magazine [London] in 1999. Robert is the
founding member of both
Main
[1990-present] and % the guitar band Loop [1984-89].
He is best known
for
his extreme manipulation techniques with guitar
combined with
acousmatic
sound design.
% Their music is the result of a very hands on
approach to sound
production
and retrieval. Performances consist of evolving and
involving sound
improvisations, % combining abstracted elemental
sonic sources and
vinyl
deconstruction via electro-acoustic and concrete
composition.
